Can colours affect our energy level, mood and emotion? That’s essentially the fundamental basis of chromotherapy (better known as colour therapy). The holistic healing method that employs the energy of colour and light to restore balance on our mental and physical health, which can be dated back to ancient Egyptian and Chinese civilisations.
Colours are all around us – and scientifically speaking, a colour is simply light at different wavelength that transmit a different effect on us. In fact, we have long associated feelings with colours: “having the blues”, “green with envy” and “raise a red flag” are some examples.
According to Walaa, a certified colour therapist and founder of Walaa’s Colorway, chromotherapy is based on vibrational healing. “When someone looks tired, it can be translated to the colour chakra that is blocked. Each colour in the spectrum vibrates at a different frequency and in shining the correct light on the chakra, this will help to balance it,” she says.
