VIVIEN (@VVNLOLL)
Setting the bar high while raising awareness in cruelty-free beauty, Vivien is striving to unleash her wildest imagination with her trailblazing makeup techniques.
How did your journey in the beauty industry begin?
It was probably because I have really cool parents who very willingly spent a fortune on a graphic design degree for their daughter. I think it started back in art school, where I met many artistic people - illustrators, cosplayers and photographers - and engaged in creative projects. Though I enjoyed it, I never thought my work was good enough. Little did I know, all I needed was a change of canvas, from screens and paper to skin. I have always been into makeup but my obsession with it began when I fell into Instagram's creative makeup rabbit hole. Since then, I have been looking for and trying out different looks, techniques and mediums. I didn't know I was good at it until people started hitting me up for collabs.
What inspires you and who do you look up to?
To be honest, I feel burned out and uninspired quite often. Previously, I was creating content purely for passion but now I feel like it is my job as a content creator to keep posting mind-blowing looks. The thing that rekindles my passion for makeup every year, I think, is the Instagram art challenge that pops up every October for Halloween. I'm inspired by many people, from artists, digital illustrators, photographers, fashion designers, jewellery designers and stylists to other makeup artists.
You frequently ask your followers to buy cruelty-free beauty products. Did you personally find it difficult to make the transition?
