As a youngster, even though I enjoyed working with computers, the only software engineers I’d heard of were white American men who all started building things in their parents’ basements and garages. As a Kenyan girl lacking both a basement and a garage, it never occurred to me that I too could build software. So I ended up studying B.A in Political and Social Thought from the University of Virginia.
It was while working in Consumer Marketing at Safaricom Ltd that I became more aware of the impact that technology can have on individuals and society and my passion to build high-impact technology products was born.
I applied to Andela’s Technical Leadership Program where I was inspired to pursue a career in Software Engineering.
