Art can be beautiful, frightening, and provocative. It can tell a story, make you feel better, make you think, and even change your life. Gaurav Goswami discusses things that make art worth your while.
The word art is most commonly associated with pieces of work in a gallery or museum, whether it’s a painting from the Renaissance or a modern sculpture. In truth art has much more diverse forms, as it encompasses all. Look around, the table or the chair, someone designed that, it is art. The shoes are art. The tea cup is art. All functional design is art. It will be wrong to say that the aim of art is merely pleasure, and define it solely by that pleasure, this definition of art fails to realize its true meaning and purpose because it attributes to an activity the meaning of which lies in its connection with other phenomena of life, the false and exceptional aim of pleasure. In order to correctly define art, it is necessary, to cease to consider it as a means to pleasure and to consider it as one of the conditions of human life. Art is one of the means of marriage between the artist and the viewer, where the viewer receives through his/her senses of hearing or sights the artist’s expression of feeling, which the viewer is capable of experiencing the emotion which moved the artist who expressed it.
