When Heavy Tackle Takes Precedence

Benjamin Knot

FOR YEARS, KNOTS DEFINED A SEAFARER’S KNOWLEDGE and reflected their on the water abilities. Today, anglers are only as good as the knots they tie in braid, monofilament and fluorocarbon. Across the docks there are many knots that accomplish similar functions, yet feature very different construction methods and finishing techniques.

When it comes to choosing a particular knot for any scenario you must take into consideration confidence in your abilities. Anglers often speak highly about knots with impressive tensile ratings, yet even if your knot can maintain the line’s original breaking strength, this is only true if it’s tied perfectly. A miscue in any step will result in a knot that’s unfit to be fished and destined to fail under load.

Among the different trends that have consequently become evident from the evolution of center consoles, boat builders are cornering a new niche of complex and competitive catamarans harnessing more outboard power than ever before. Breaking the barrier with innovative hull designs and deck layouts, the newest catamarans offer unobstructed fishability while providing increased fuel economy and speed per applied horsepower.

Underwater LEDs

MY CENTER CONSOLE WAS RECENTLY OUTFITTED with full spectrum color-changing underwater LEDs and I can’t wait to test them out. I’m aware of their ability to attract forage and predator species to the boat from dusk till dawn, but are high intensity LEDs effective at attracting life during the day? If so, what color shines brightest amid the natural light of the sun?
