Fly Fishing In The Southern Belt During Winter

Fighting icedup guides and the mental punishment endured through the winter season can be daunting, but this is possibly my favorite time of year to play with southern muskies. I believe fishing this phase of year is so enjoyable because most of the time you’re the only person “intelligent” enough to spend time on the water in the brutal temperatures of the winter season.

Weather

There are some downsides to fishing the winter season. It is, after all, winter. Weather in the winter months in the southern musky belt states is erratic and generally contains a lot of rain. This means you had better be on the water every opportunity you get because after one good torrential downpour, or a week straight of water falling from the sky, the resulting high, muddy water could set you back for weeks.
