Douglas fly rods are probably not yet well known in our neck of the woods, but in the USA they have made quite a bang with their entrance to the market. Douglas Outdoors produces the Sky series of fly rods, these being available in weights 3 12 in a 9’, 4-piece configuration. The series also features longer rods in 10’ and 11’ in 2to 4-wt, and 11’4” in 5and 7-wt. Quite a lineup, and with the Sky G rod in particular making waves in the high- end rod market, we were keen to have a look at a Douglas Sky. The local importer of Douglas rods, Featherlite Fly Rod & Reel, recently asked us to review the Douglas Sky 5904, a 4-piece, 5-wt model, and we were happy to oblige.
