With video chat, help for depression can be wherever you need it.
People with arthritis have higher rates of depression and anxiety than the general population, and finding help can be difficult. Teletherapy – online counseling, or talk therapy, in which a patient and a mental health professional talk through video chat – can make getting treatment easier.
Teletherapy solves several problems. Nearly 80 million Americans live in regions with few or no mental health providers, according to Mental Health America. Distance isn’t an issue when therapy is done over the computer. Online counseling eliminates transportation, energy, time and mobility challenges, too.
“The logistics of telehealth are far easier than the logistics of face-to face meetings,” says psychologist Lindsay Henderson, PhD, who treats patients virtually.
