The Most Popular Teacher Of The Millennium
Food & Health|September/October 2016

A.P.J Abdul Kalam, the 11th President of India, Bharat Ratna, Padma Bhushan was a visionary and a dreamer. Kalam was the brain behind India’s space and missile programs and the heart behind a developed India.

The Most Popular Teacher Of The Millennium

A bdul Kalam was a master of many trades. The ‘Popular President’ was fondly called the Missile Man of India. His passion to make India not just a superpower but a great nation is an inspiration to each Indian citizen.

Kalam’s role as an institution builder and a team leader reached its zenith during his role as a President. He believed in peaceful talks to resolve problems. He placed faith in facing problems and solving them based on scientific methods. This has been reflected in his teachings at various schools and colleges. Passionate of imparting knowledge, the former President’s puckish humour and grounded ideas made him a youth icon!

Even when he breathed his last, Kalam was delivering the first lines of a lecture on sustainable development, to be followed by a trademark interaction with over 135 students from the Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management (RG-IIM) in Shillong. He succumbed to cardiac arrest on July 27, 2015. A year has gone by, and India has not recovered from the unfortunate demise.

The spirit of this popular teacher will continue to aspire and inspire us.

BHARAT has lost a Ratna, but the light from this jewel will guide us towards APJ Abdul Kalam’s dream- destination: India as a knowledge superpower, in the first rank of nations.

Only the Thar could hold a secret so deep.

The raging cyclones covered the furious night. The US satellites had perked up to spy closely, but India was yet to unleash an energy that would propel the nation forward. Five nuclear bomb explosions later, the Indian government deceived the CIA: the organization that had boasted of greasy moles and human intelligence sniffing around the political corridors of Delhi.

Seventeen years hence, the ‘Missile Man of India’ had tweeted, “Today, I remember the hot day of 1998 at Pokhran: 53C. When most of the world was sleeping; India’s nuclear era emerged.”
