This Summer, Do Look Fabulous
Food & Health|May 2019

Summer season tends to damage our skin as a result of high temperature and humidity.

This Summer, Do Look Fabulous

It is the peak time for those itchy and crawly sensations, due to the excessive sweating that attracts the dust particles and pollutants. The harsh rays and the harmful pollutants that inhabit the air, aggravated by profuse sweating can lead to several skin ailments. Dr. Sivakumar of Desire Aesthetics talks about a few such common skin diseases and how one can check on them to avoid or prevent further damage.

Know the Symptoms

When sweat mixes with bacteria and oils on your skin, it can clog your pores. If you have acne-prone skin, this often means breakouts. Other problems like Body odor, Dry irritated skin, sun burns, heat boils and fungal infections can be caused and aggravated due to the heat. UV sun exposure and heat are major culprits in hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone.

Precautionary Treatment

The best treatment depends on the severity of the condition. In many cases, removing yourself from the warm environment to a cooler, less humid atmosphere can resolve the issue. Consider using a dusting powder to promote comfort, and an anti-itch cream can also help relieve itching and discomfort.

• Blot sweat from your skin with a clean towel or cloth. Wiping sweat off can irritate your skin, which can lead to a breakout.

• Wash sweaty clothes, headbands, towels and hats before wearing them again.

• Apply sunscreen before going outdoors, using one that offers broadspectrum protection, SPF 30+, and water resistance.

• Immediately after your workout, change out of tight workout clothes like biking shorts and shower.

• Stay out of hot tubs and whirlpools if you’re unsure whether the acid and chlorine levels are properly controlled.
