AUSTRALIA’S EUROVISION SWEETHEART, CHART-TOPPING SINGER JESSICA MAUBOY, TALKS FAME, FITNESS AND THE SECRET TO HER SUCCESS. BY PAUL EWART
Vivacious, full of beans and full of talent; Jessica Mauboy has secured her place in Australian music history as one of the country’s most successful performers. In a career that has gone from strength to strength, she has proved herself as both a multimillion record-selling singer and an award-winning actress, notching up small and big screen credits, tours with the likes of Beyoncé and appearances on Oprah and Ellen in the process. Not bad for a self-proclaimed “girl from the bush”.
Just back from the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon, Jessica talks about her rapid rise to fame, and says having the mental strength to manifest her dreams is the secret to her success – but it’s an ongoing process.
“I’m on my own kind of journey,” she says. “It’sreally about being in tune and being focused. I’ve been keeping a journal for a long time – a vision board of sorts – in which I paste pictures and write down wishes. It’s really helpful.”
Her mental strength also influences how she takes care of herself. In an era in which complicated diet plans are a dime a dozen and celebrity weight-loss endorsements are plentiful, Jessica’s own wellness regime is refreshingly simple.
“I love cooking and prepare my own meals,” she says. “That’s therapy for me – being at home and doing domestic stuff. It helps me to keep calm and not overthink things too much.
