I have scoliosis. When I was 12 years old, my back started hurting. For years, I took stabs at fixing my own back and reducing my pain. I tried the typical side-bend and twist recommendations. My spine is bent and twisted in one direction, so exercising to bend and twist in the opposite direction seemed logical. Now, I know it was all wrong, which explains the increased pain every time I did these exercises.
