This Board Is Da Bomb

At first glance, the Da Vinci BodyBoard, and its sturdy wooden platform with handles, straps, tubing and bands along the perimeter, looks like it belongs in the Pilates studio. So it didn’t come as a surprise to learn that the device, which broke into the U.S. market in 2013, was born with Pilates principles at the forefront.

“I was doing a lot of running and boot camp–style workouts when I started working on the BodyBoard,” recalls its founder Floery Mahoney, who received her Pilates certification through Momentum in Santa Fe 18 years ago. “But I wasn’t losing weight and was aching all over. I went back to my Pilates roots with the BodyBoard to incorporate a more full-body-based movement program. The BodyBoard program is designed to be a bit more organic while still holding onto form as a major focus.”

THE RESULT: You can reap the benefits in minimal time. “All classes are 30 minutes, with a five- to 10-minute cool-down. I really believe that our bodies respond much better to exercise in this time frame, powering us up for the day instead of down,” says Mahoney.
