From the Archives of Yoga and Total Health - A Symbol of Strength
Yoga and Total Health|November 2020
Founder, Shri Yogendraji, to me, personally, shall remain a symbol of strength. I vividly remember my first glimpse of him, almost eight years ago. It was a winter morning, fresh, cool, and crisp, with a nip in the air, as I entered the portal of The Yoga Institute. Just ahead of me, a person with folded hands was saying ‘Namaste’, to someone standing at the window above the office. Glancing up, I saw a figure with a flowing beard, twinkling eyes as if full of wisdom, a muffler casually wrapped around his throat. It was a face immediately serene and soothing, with the faint hint of a smile. A face softened by the early morning rays. Instinctively, I too folded my hands, bowed my head. Gracefully did he acknowledge, with a benign smile, a raised hand, a slight nod. It was later on, did I come to know, that he was none other than Founder!

As I pen these thoughts, there comes before my eyes, the vision of that winter morning, still as bright, as glowing. The thoughts which flashed across my mind then, lingered on, becoming more intensified as I came to know more about him, saw him at closer quarters, on and off talked with him. I had wondered then, as to how could someone, in a fast-paced city like Bombay, be so calm and unruffled? What is it that made him so? What is the key to this strength… for only an inner strength could have transmitted that tranquility on his visage.
