Not so long ago, a different economic division of labour existed. Men worked outside the home whilst women provided what economists called “home production” —cooking, cleaning and caring for children.

Today, more and more women are joining the workforce for economic and other reasons. Much is being written about the working woman - her trials and tribulations and some about her immense satisfactions.

A Hite report published in 1987 found that “...women were expected to play traditional nurturing love-giving roles while helping out as breadwinners.”
