How my journey at The Yoga Institute changed summer vacation

Transformation Through Yoga

Summer is here and so is the summer vacation. When I was in school, I would eagerly wait for the vacation so that I could go to Punjab, my home state.

Little did I know that this summer, I would go back after fifteen years, to my late grandmother's place. This event was a commemoration of my Nani's demise, hence I was about to meet all the relatives I could think of, under one roof. And this would also turn out to be an event that would reflect on the changes I had seen on my yoga journey.

The First Change - Moderation

During my vacations, I would eat all things like Aloo Tikki, Chole, fried in Ghee, mouthfuls of Masala Chaaps, and end it with something sugary (mostly the famous Malai Kulfi).

After eating all this, I would come back and sleep like a two-year-old baby. So, when I joined The Yoga Institute two years back, I was already a heavy eater and would justify it as "Khatey Peetey Ghar Ke Hain." One year ago, I was attending a Hatha Yoga Pradipika class when I came across the word "Atyahara" and how it was one of the six obstacles to yoga practice.

This term opened my eye! With this study, I became aware of how I was overeating and hence making decisions based on a Tamasic mind for twenty-five years.
