Nowadays, N we do things merely externally. We cook food, we eat it and we exercise. But with that physical action, certain mental changes occur, which can be expedited, provided our attention is there, as for example, food. We can gobble it quickly as most people do nowadays, or we can enjoy it and praise the food; the two ways will have different effects on our system. That is true of everything, including Asanas. We do Asanas, but the attention is not on the posture and the results are very poor. A person who is totally into that Asana has a different result. Buddha, when he was doing Padmasana, was totally into it and as a result, Padmasana became a turning point in his life.
So, we have to see if we can improve in this central area. As it is, we are too occupied with the external and nominally do a lot of things. We eat food; we do Asanas; we do our work but we rarely can bring ourselves wholly and fully into the action. So, we have to keep this in mind while doing Asanas. First, the desire to learn many Asanas should be curbed. Also, doing Asanas hurriedly, as well as attending to many other activities around should be avoided. We should withdraw all our attention to ourselves and the action we are doing.
