Tucked into a private enclave in Sydney’s north, this open-ended home is full of pleasant surprises.

Kerry and Greg weren’t planning to buy a modern home. They’d just had plans drawn up for a substantial renovation of their Federation house a few streets away on Sydney’s northern beaches when a friend suggested they take a look at a much younger property in a small, private estate with sea views. “It felt solid and very high quality,” says Kerry. “Suddenly, we were excited about living there.”

After two visits, the couple bought the 661m2 property in April 2016. It’s one of several homes in a cluster designed by some of Australia’s most acclaimed architects, including Alex Popov, Howard Tanner and Alec Tzannes, who designed this particular dwelling. The north-facing home with sandstone feature walls has four bedrooms, three bathrooms, landscaped gardens and, most importantly to Greg, it’s only a short stroll to the beach.
