The dos and don’ts of decorating your aquarium

The world is your oyster when it comes to tank decor. But, try not to overcrowd the space as maintenance can be challenging, leading to the rise of ammonia and your fish getting sick.

FIRST THINGS FIRST

Depending on your fish type, choose sand, gravel, stones or glass pebbles as a substrate to line the tank bottom.

REAL OR FAKE PLANTS?

Plants offer fish a place to hide. Easy-to-maintain plastic plants can be more colourful, with hues not found in nature. And they don’t die! To clean them, scrub them free of algae and gunk with a bristle brush. While real plants can help to improve the tank’s water quality, they can decompose, potentially causing nitrogen levels to spike and stress the fish.
