Loiter a bit as you experience the end of the deep chill and welcome a timid warmth
Last Of Winter's Wonders

1 One of the prettiest camellias you can plant is the C. japonica ‘Hikaru-Genji’, with streaks of pink on white petals that come in many patterns. Its name comes from the tales of an early Japanese courtesan!

2 Plants won’t let boundaries hold them back in their search for sunlight. A picket fence makes the escape plans of these camellias and aspidistras so much easier. So fearless and adventurous!

Taking that step into another season means fondly farewelling the old and eagerly embracing the new. With Elegans, a garden snuck in a rainforest-like gully next to Berowra Valley National Park in Sydney, this is the time when winter blooms linger, spring bulbs pop and limey summer foliage gingerly emerge. It’s three seasons in one day – and in only the best possible way. Colour-saturated, late-winter-flowering camellias are having their last laugh – and it’s hale and hearty. Plus, in a garden that shuns formality and welcomes wanton randomness, the lushness of a summer rainforest garden puts out its feelers. It’s a shade lovers’ delight and inspiration.
