If you’re checking in on how our 2020 Project House is coming along, things are shaping up. Cottages & Bungalows and our sister publication American Farmhouse Style are designing and building this home in collaboration with builder Scissortail Homes and designer Pencil Shavings Studio.
As each room is revealed, we’re seeing fresh design ideas that inspire new interpretations of cottage style. “We wanted the whole house to feel natural and earthy, and the challenge was, how do we do that in different ways?” says Lindsey Morris of Scissortail Homes.
Let’s take a look at the newly-finished guest bedrooms and bunk room. They feature exciting finishes, colors, patterns, and artwork that tie together beautifully.
VERY VERSATILE
Each bedroom bears a unique personality, yet blends in with the home’s classic-with-a-modern-twist theme.
One of the guest bedrooms is designed with a pink feature wall, but the design has just the right shade, giving it a sophisticated, universal appeal. “The person we envisioned in this room is a young tween, or high school or college student visiting from college,” says Lindsey. “Pink is a tricky color because … we also want a male to feel comfortable [here]. The tone is more of an earthy pink. The vertical board and batten wall has a thicker trim, which gives it a classier look.”
