The unusual flowers are upright, with a yellow tube and green sepals, tinged and tipped with chocolate-brown, which fold back along the tube. There are no petals, but the stamens bear blue pollen and the stigma, when present, may be above or below the stamens.F. procumbens &lsquo;Wirral&rsquo; is a variegated form with white margined, greyer-green leaves.The green seed pods are quite large and mature to reddish-mauve and finally a plum colour when ripe. The berries are edible and reputed to have a peppery flavour. This species comes true from seed and can also be propagated from tip, semi-ripe or hardwood cuttings.Quite hardy in the UK, F. procumbens can be grown as a rockery plant or in a hanging container to appreciate its trailing branches.
