This super-charged wasp preys on other insects and makes short work of bee colonies
Hornets have a fearsome reputation. A super-charged wasp, a hornet is an insect to treat with respect. If you haven’t seen one, our native hornet (Vespa crabro) is a handsome beast. Both wasps and hornets are two-tone and striped, but where a wasp is yellow and black, a hornet combines chestnut-brown with a rich, golden yellow.
