World’s biggest bloomer could become extinct in the wild
The world’s largest and stinkiest flowering plant is under threat of extinction, conservationists have discovered. The titan arum, Amorphophallus titanum, nicknamed the corpse flower because of its overpowering smell, is a plant that always makes headlines when its short-lived, 3m (10ft) tall bloom appears in public displays around the world. Now it’s in the spotlight again as scientists have estimated less than 1,000 individuals exist in the wild.
