2017 saw the launch of one of the most star-studded collaborations in India — The Elephant Parade. After all, if members of the British Royal family are physically involved in it, it’s bound to gather much buzz. In an exclusive tête-à-tête, Ruth Powys-Ganesh, CEO of Elephant Family gets down to explaining the basics.... Check it out.

What lead you to take up the cause of Asian elephants?

A childish sense of awe and wonder; an elephant is the largest and most curious looking animal on the planet. I am yet to meet a person who doesn’t love elephants, so in that way I feel it’s not unusual to want to somehow be closer to them. I was fortunate to meet Mark Shand in my early 20’s — he was a voice for this species. At the time I was interested in many different causes, conservation being one. Mark’s evangelising meant the gravitational pull was irresistibly strong. Another factor was knowing that the Asian elephant was the underdog, more endangered than its African counterpart and yet less talked about.
