There’s no doubt that our relationship with food has changed this year. Following foodie trails and exploring new restaurants used to be a regular weekend activity. Now, nothing much exists beyond the routine of ordering a takeaway to enjoy at home.
On the flip side, mealtimes have become an opportunity to embrace mindful living. Without the hubbub and flash of fancy new environments, we are free to turn our attention to what truly matters: the quality of the food and the company.
It was with this in mind that long-time friends Malvina Tan and Valerie Sim decided to create MAKE + MERRY Magic Kits of artisanal products that promise to elevate the takeaway dining experience at home.
They launched the first Magic Kit 1.0 in October. It includes four different jam flavours and butter produced made by Chef Dylan Ong of The Masses restaurant, and a fabric wrap designed by artist Soh Ee Shaun that’s inspired by the ingredients.
With the upcoming kits, the friends hope to collaborate with more chefs and artisans. We chat with Malvina, who’s currently based in Sydney, to learn more about this initiative.
WHAT INSPIRED THIS COLLABORATION?
We started MAKE + MERRY because of our passion for the arts and love of food and wine. As I work as a performance artist and Valerie is a creative producer by profession, we share a common desire to create projects that support the arts and the rest of the creative industry.
