Avril Rankin and Sean Lacey stripped this property down to three walls and a roof to transform it into a bigger, brighter and more energy-efficient family home

When Avril Rankin and Sean Lacey realised their family had outgrown their two-bed home in County Dublin, they went hunting locally for a bigger place. What they found was a dated Sixties bungalow that had the potential to become their perfect home. ‘We wanted to turn it into a bright, energy-efficient space, which could be easily cleaned and maintained to create a healthy space for our daughter Esther, who is asthmatic,’ says Avril.
