Explore a tranquil summer residence on Nantucket island, USA, designed to melt into the scenic landscape

Eleanor Joslin
Creating A Calm Oasis

Inspired by the calm waters and serene natural landscape that sweeps across the small, isolated island of Nantucket, off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, this idyllic summer home draws upon its surroundings, creating a calm and peaceful retreat for the owners, a family of four.

Designed by New York architects Workshop/APD, the design team gave their clients a fresh perspective on what it means to live a modern, relaxed, beach lifestyle set against a timeless, sophisticated scheme.

The family wanted to highlight the serene ocean views and take advantage of the leafy five-acre plot, with indoor-outdoor areas for entertaining, as well as space to host family and friends holidaying in the summer season.

The result is a comfortably chic residence comprising a three-storey main house, featuring an open-plan first floor with a living-dining room, kitchen and spacious balcony terraces, a ground floor with four en-suite bedrooms and a basement level with two guest bedrooms and a media room.

An adjoining studio has a stylish games room with a lounge and pool table, while the separate two-bedroom guest house includes an open-plan kitchen and lounge, with bi-fold doors that open fully onto a sophisticated outdoor living space and a beautifully landscaped swimming pool.
