We were living in a two-and-a-half-bedroom house in Kimmage, the third bedroom was tiny,’ explains Deborah. ‘With children, it was time to look for a bigger home.’ Deborah is originally from Terenure, her husband Brian from Castleknock, and both had a partisan preference to return to their own area. ‘Although that wasn’t going so well, as neither of us really wanted to move to the other’s home place!’ says Deborah. ‘We weren’t seeing much value in either area anyway. We would come out to Killiney for walks and swims and could see that the gardens in the area were generous and the quality of homes in the middle ranges much better than closer to the city. We thought, why not move here? There was far greater value for money here at the time.’ The couple spotted this home for sale on My Home in 2013 and liked it. ‘It was the very first house we both agreed on immediately,’ says Deborah. The house has a huge back garden and as it was a wide house, but only one room deep, the light came in on both sides. “There were lovely views from the bedrooms upstairs, and it was in good structural condition, although it did need work,’ she adds.
