Flowers and plants provide colour in the garden and choosing colours which complement each other or won’t clash can be the most challenging part of any planting scheme.
Sometimes simplifying the colour scheme is the best approach and one colour which goes with everything is white. It can be introduced into any planting scheme to soften the clash of competing colours or it can simply be used as the overall colour scheme.
Over the years, I seem to have made an unconscious decision to choose more white coloured flowers than any other colour for my garden and I find myself drawn to them in garden centres. White is a calming colour and a garden with all white flowering garden plants can provide a sense of coolness and calm to a garden. As an added bonus, white flowers can stand out at night, almost glowing in the twilight.
If you’re planning to introduce white flowers into your garden or maybe you are considering developing one bed with all white flowering, try to mix it up with the shapes of the flowers, with a combination of spikes or fluffy pom-poms. Different textured leaves and varying the plant heights will also help to create interest in a white planting scheme.
