This home &mdash; which she calls The Art Residence &mdash; was an intensive exercise in curation rather than design &mdash; a task of creating compositions and juxtapositions of iconic creations; a bringing together of masterful renditions in painting, sculpture, furniture and lighting; a fusion of old and new.</p><p><img src="https://magarticles.magzter.com/articles/14888/505175/5f434594302af/1598244113549.jpg"" owidth=1011 oheight=1539" style="width: 1011px; height: 1539px;" /></p><p id="2">The project happened serendipitously for Kanan, who met the home owners at an art fair that they host every year. Seeing the architect&rsquo;s interest in art sparked a dialogue around curating the extensive art collection in their home, and bringing in eclectic pieces of furniture that would complement it. The home, a charming, 30-year-old edifice in Hyderabad&rsquo;s upscale Banjara Hills precinct was replete with architectural positives: stunning wood-carved ceilings, a spiral staircase with a timber balustrade, a huge garden and plenty of natural light. While the refurbishment involved opening up some of the spaces, much of the environment was conserved and retained for its old-world charm.</p><p><img src="https://magarticles.magzter.com/articles/14888/505175/5f434594302af/1598244200519.jpg"" owidth=1698 oheight=2550" style="width: 1698px; height: 2550px;" /></p><p id="3">The house was treated as a stark canvas that would let the beauty of the pieces shine through. The colour palette of the spaces was kept neutral, where shades of beige and greys formed an elegant backdrop to the art. Lasting for about six months, the project&rsquo;s opening act featured names such as Ram Kumar, Krishen Khanna, Laxma Goud and Surya Prakash.</p>
