Ribbed? Fluted? Scalloped? Ridged? Whatever you call it, there’s something so pleasing about the gentle ripples that are gracing kitchens up and down the land at the moment. One item fluting is featuring on majorly is the kitchen island – a piece that has been popular for years now and can be taken to another style level with the ribbed look. ‘Kitchen islands are a natural focal point in contemporary kitchens and provide the perfect opportunity to create a feature,’ says Kitty Lee, founder of Kitty Lee Architecture. ‘Ribbing adds warmth, texture and visual interest to the kitchen.’ But fluting looks stunning on cabinetry, too, and you can even get ribbed glazing if you want a row of glass-fronted cabinetry.
