India&rsquo;s leading contemporary art gallery, Nature Morte presents Gradient Descent, the first ever Artificial Intelligence art show in India. Also the first show in the world, hosted by a mainstream art gallery, curating art produced by Artificial Intelligence. The show explores the intersection of art and Artificial Intelligence and is based on a thesis by 64/1, a creative curatorial collective. Co-Founded by Raghava KK and Karthik Kalyanaraman, Bangaluru, 64/1 focuses on building public understanding of how artists and Artificial Intelligence can come together to create art for the posthuman age.The show brings seven pioneering artists Anna Ridler, United Kingdom; Harshit Agrawal, India; Jake Elwes, United Kingdom; Mario Klingemann, Germany;&nbsp;Memo Akten, United Kingdom (originally from Turkey); Nao Tokui, Japan, and Tom White, New Zealand (originally from the US). These artists come from a variety of academic institutions including, IIT, MIT, Oxford, Harvard, Chicago Art Institute, MIT Media Lab, University College London, Royal College of Art, University of Arts London and the University of Tokyo.This is a show of Artificial Intelligence art, not just art that uses technology. The artwork is created by the collaboration between man and machine, where the artist is a cyborg. The show&rsquo;s central thesis revolves directly around the ideas of &lsquo;How our entire future &mdash; economic, political, social &mdash; is going to be revolutionised by Artificial Intelligence&rsquo; and insights into &lsquo;What is creativity? Can a machine create? If so, what is special about the human? &nbsp;What is left for the human to do? Indeed, what defines being human?&rsquo;Aparajita Jain, Co-director of the Nature Morte says,&nbsp;&lsquo;This is a magnificent opportunity for imagining the unimagined through the lens of art. This is the first time in the history of India that an art gallery is organising such a unique show that has already been the subject of widespread evaluative acclaim. We at Nature Morte Gallery are proud and fortunate to be hosting this exclusive exhibition.&rsquo;The collaboration between artists and Artificial Intelligence confronts us with some fundamental questions of aesthetics. The common fear is that technology and Artificial Intelligence will replace jobs. While this is true, the other side of the coin is the social possibility created by its use: how can we reimagine creativity, human purpose and society in this new future world. The pioneering artists in this show have grappled with this complexity and have shown that creativity and human labour need not be replaced but can also be reinvented with the rise of new technology.
