Windows

Choosing the right windows for your home can be trickier than you expect. With a range of types and styles on offer, it's hard to know which is the best fit especially when budget comes into play. You should consider windows an investment, and opt for quality where you can - these aren't something you want to be replacing regularly! However, quality doesn't mean you have to completely empty your bank account - you can get good-quality but reasonably priced uPVC windows, for example, that will suit many modern homes.

What style you choose will depend on what kind of property you have, so a little research into your home will go a long way to make sure you're not deviating too far from when it was built. So too will checking there are no restrictions on your property, as we'll go into over the following pages. Traditional windows will complement an older home and frame a garden view beautifully, but if you're looking for a more contemporary style, you'll find plenty to inspire you as you start your research. Read on for some key considerations when it comes to buying windows - and to see some of our favourite designs.

TOP TIP

CASEMENT WINDOWS

Attached to the frame by hinges, a casement window is one of the most common kinds of window. Variations include side-hung, top-hung (which helpfully blocks out rain), and bottom-hung, which is best for basements. Center-hinged windows act like a pivot doors and needless clearance for opening.
