Moving out from their previous condominium and making the upsize to a penthouse meant a lot to Kamal and Toli, because it meant that their new abode would be able to accommodate their growing family much more comfortably. The couple decided to consult with interior design firm Fuse Concept to find ways to take advantage of the house’s larger footprint because they wanted it to better suit their personal tastes, individual habits and hobbies.
The resale penthouse’s original floor plan was spacious to begin with; so, not much hacking was needed to restructure it. However, its appearance needed an overhaul to suit its occupants. “Kamal and Toli preferred a duskier colour scheme to go along with the dark modern theme that they fancied,” says interior designer JD Tan from Fuse Concept. “Hence, we established a palette that is a mix of dark greys and rich browns.” He also pointed out that the pair wanted their collection of ethnic ornaments displayed throughout the apartment.
Bringing elements such as woodgrain patterns into the mix and having the homeowners’ personal keepsakes on show bring character and visual interest into the abode’s modern setting. In addition, these textures imbue a sense of cosiness into the scene. “We kept the walls pristine to balance the earthy tones and to make sure the unique wooden tribal wall art really pop,” explains JD.
