Sleep is something we can't get enough of, and the lack of it could very well be because of an ill-fitting bed. It's the equivalent of wearing scratchy or worn-out clothing for almost eight hours and no one wants that. Get better acquainted with essential mattress and bedding terminology, and learn tips from the experts.
LATEX MATTRESSES
There are three types of latex mattresses in general. Thijs Veyfeyken, General Manager from organic latex mattress brand Heveya says: "The most common latex mattress is made from a blend of both synthetic and natural latex."
The second and third are natural latex and organic latex. "Both are made from the sap of the rubber tree (Hevea Brasiliensis)," he explains. "However, organic latex undergoes very tight production procedures with regard to plantation and processing, and it has to be grown in a special plantation free of any chemical fertilizers or pesticides to be certified as organic."
LATEX CARE
Five care tips from Mathilde Wennevold, Digital Marketer at Peacelily, on how to maintain latex mattresses.
1. Peacelily latex mattresses are naturally antimicrobial and dust- and mite-resistant, but it's important to keep them dry, ventilated, and dust-free.
2. Besides bedsheets, use a mattress protector to protect your mattress from dust, sweat, dirt, and minor spills.
3. It's essential to use a bed frame that's suitable for the weight, malleability, and breathing needs of latex. You should not place the mattresses on the floor or on a solid surface as it can lead to mould and mildew.
4. Do rotate the mattress from top to bottom occasionally to prevent uneveness.
5. Keep food, drinks, and pets out of bed. If spills or accidents do happen, cleaning and drying the mattress quickly and completely will prevent mould growth and other irreversible damages.
