FOR MANY ANIMALS, CUTENESS BECOMES a death sentence. Take the three-toed sloth of South America. Docile and endearing, flapping its arms as if asking for a hug, it has been trending as a symbol for the slacker lifestyle on social media. In reality, these delicate animals require 20 hours of sleep a day and are easily stressed when handled – something they display with that seemingly welcoming arm wave. Many die within months if captured.
