Breaking up is hard to do
Jonathan Ho
Seeing Other People

Just shy of seven years after their much-publicised wedding, Kim Kardashian announced in February 2021 that she was divorcing rapper Kanye West. What happened next was galling. He started to air private conversations with his ex-wife on social media, then he started begging her on Instagram to take him back, and eventually, that sad behaviour turned into death threats against her current boyfriend, Saturday Night Live comedian Pete Davidson on that same platform; jumping to and fro the multiple stages on the cycle of acceptance, Ye’s personal life has crossed into his professional one culminating with Eazy, the music video where West depicts himself decapitating a clay model of Davidson. Icing on top, Ye then shared a headless photo of Davidson with Kardashian online, writing, “Look at this d***head”. In March, a Los Angeles judge declared Kardashian legally single. Their predicament shines a spotlight on toxic breakup behaviour.
