Bremont collaborates with Martin-Baker
THERE ARE A MILLION PARTS TO A PLANE and the watchmaking world has probably used each and every part as inspiration for watches. Timepieces made to look like cockpit instruments, case designs with the colours of certain fighter planes, case shapes made in the likeness of jets – the list is endless and will continue to expand.
While there might be plenty of brands with an association to aviation, London-based watchmaker Bremont’s attachment to the skies is a personal one. Giles and Nick English, the brothers who founded the company, spent many years of their youth flying planes alongside their father until he perished in a plane crash.
One would think that might have ruined their affinity for the skies but the English brothers saw it as a driving factor in their love for aviation and all things mechanical.
After founding the company in 2002, Bremont’s claim to fame has largely been its reputation as an English watchmaker and its collaborations with brands from the UK, such as Jaguar and Norton.
Its most interesting collaboration, however, is the one with Martin-Baker. The British manufacturer was originally a producer of airplanes when it started back in the 1920s but in 1942, a tragic accident saw the company change direction.
