Sakshi Parikh tests the Samyang 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC to see whether it really is the most affordable ultrawide lens present in the market. Here’s what she found out.
Living in the digital era, I have mostly shot with camera gear that offers AF. So when I picked up the Samyang 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC, I was hesitant to make a transition from the comfort of an auto focus lens to the challenge of manual focus.
However, after spending quite some time shooting, I was able to get hold of the mechanism. As a portrait photographer, who works with standard to telephoto focal lengths, I was really excited to test this ultra wide angle lens.
Features
The body is of a solid plastic material and attached to a metal lens mount. The optical construction of the full frame lens includes six aperture blades, 14 elements in 10 optical groups with three high refractive index elements, 2x ED element, an aspherical hybrid element plus an aspherical glass element. The latest generation of anti-reflective layers, UMC– Ultra Multi Coated are incorporated to minimise flare and ghosting.
