IN this season’s Celtic View we are taking a trip each week to grounds where the Hoops have played on their travels.
FIRST VISIT
Partick Thistle played at a few venues before they met Celtic on league duty and that was at their first longer-term home, Meadow side on December 11, 1897 when the Celts won 6-3, with Peter Somers and Dod Allan scoring two each, while Davie Russell and Johnny Campbell also scored. Following another season of moving from ground to ground in 1908/09, Thistle settled in Maryhill and Celtic first visited Firhill for a 3-1 league win on November 13, 1909, with Jimmy Quinn netting twice and the other goal coming from Willie Loney as a crowd of 30,000 looked on.
MOST RECENT VISIT
Celtic last visited Firhill on January 23, 2018, just days after the Scottish Cup tie against Brechin City marked the end of the winter break. It was actually Thistle who took the lead in the 33rd minute when Conor Sammon scored from the spot. The Hoops equalised from the same spot after the turnaround when Scott Sinclair dusted himself down after being fouled in the box, and he slotted away the penalty kick in the 55th minute. Leigh Griffiths made sure of the points in the 70th minute when he scored the only goal from open play for a 2-1 win.
