The Last Word Mark Henderson
LAST Thursday (January 4) was exactly eight years to the day that I started work in Celtic’s multi-media department.
As you can see from these photos, I haven’t changed a bit in that time…I blame my hair loss on the stress of eight UEFA Champions League qualifying campaigns and all those nervous waits in restaurants around the world as Tony Hamilton checked his dinner for anything resembling a mushroom.
There are many interesting and rewarding aspects of my job, but nothing still beats the excitement of covering the games from the press box. I consider it an honour to be tasked with writing match reports for the Celtic website and the View, or doing live Twitter updates for the millions of fans we have across the globe.
I have also been fortunate enough to carry out some co-commentary work for Celtic TV over the years, riding shotgun with the likes of Tony, Paul Cuddihy, Gregor Kyle, Gerry McDade, Gerry Harte, Kenny McKay, Martin Dalziel and Gerry McCulloch.
I will always remember my first experience of summarising: a 2-1 victory over Hearts on the last day of the 2009/10 season, when a wooden pillar in the old main stand at Tynecastle obstructed my view of Zheng Zhi’s late winning goal, bringing the curtain down on a distinctly forgettable season.
