Chris Gayle or ‘Gayle Storm’ as he’s popularly called in the cricketing world is undoubtedly a one man army. The 36 year old Jamaican is a great entertainer, both on and off the field. Delhiites recently caught up with him in Delhi during his promotional tour for a brand he endorses.
When and how did you discover the cricketer in you?
I started my journey with the Lucas Cricket Club in Kingston, Jamaica. If it wasn’t for Lucas I don’t know where I would be today, possibly on the streets of Jamaica. I got the chance to play for Jamaica at the age of 19.
Tell us about your early days in International cricket.
I debuted for West Indies at the age of 20 in One Day Internationals and exactly after 6 months I was picked to play Test matches. I would say my career had a slower start than I would have wanted. It was during a series with India in ’02 when my performance stunned not only everyone else but me as well. I was connecting with the ball so well that I went on to score three centuries in that series.
