Want to have a car in Singapore? There’s change on the road ahead – pun intended! – as far as COEs (Certifi cates of Entitlement) are concerned, and plenty of talk about limiting the number of vehicles on the island.
There’s also been plenty of uncertainty in the job market, so factoring in a long-term car commitment has to be part of your decision process. With more taxis, Ubers and Grabs on the streets, it’s also easier to get around, but add up the total dollar amount in one month of using them and you may realise it’s not such a cheap option. It’s also frustrating dealing with cancellations and erratic drivers – I had three cancellations just trying to get my daughter an Uber this morning! Similarly, the MRT network is growing, but if you live away from the main drag, just getting to public transport can leave you in a sweaty mess.
I spoke with GRACE TAN, Head of Wearnes Leasing, and asked her a few questions to help you make your decision.
Would it be better to lease or buy a car right now?
