Gallic Chic In Tiong Bahru
EL Singapore|September 2017

Moving from Paris to Singapore in 2015 was no daunting relocation for Aude.

Her husband Antoine’s employers gave the couple the chance to choose where in Asia they wanted to live, and Aude had no reservations: Singapore was her first choice.

Her father, who’s French, had married a Singaporean when Aude was very young, and he’s since lived here for more than 30 years, along with her half-brothers and -sisters. “I’ve been to Singapore every year since I was four, so it’s my second home,” she explains. Also, her Indonesian mother has a homestay in Flores, Indonesia, so this move was a way for Aude to get a lot closer, geographically, to her family.

It was Antoine who wasn’t certain at first. “He didn’t know much about Singapore at all, and when he first encountered the hot and humid weather he wasn’t sure if he could handle it; but he loves it here now. He thinks that Tiong Bahru is one of the best neighbourhoods to live in – it’s like living in a small village in a big city.”

While deciding between here and the Jalan Besar area, Aude found this apartment on Property Guru and was sold on it straight away. “When I caught sight of the original tiles, which are found throughout the apartment, I just knew I had to live here.”
