It is no secret that Northeast India is home to many creative thinkers, including skilled artistes. While a few have been able to make a name in the national art scene, many are still struggling to get their hard work acknowledged. To support talented artistes in the region and help them connect with international artistes, Heritage and Art Design in collaboration with Assam State Museum recently organized a week-long international art exhibition ‘Artistes Sans Frontiéres 2019’ at the Assam State Museum in Guwahati. The idea was for local artistes to exchange ideas with international artists from different parts of the world.
Exchange of Ideas
Pritam Saikia, co-ordinator of the event informed, ‘The exhibition was an attempt to create a platform that encourages an exchange between artists from the region and the rest of the world. At present, such platform has become essential for the growth of local artists and also helps them explore new possibilities in art. Northeast India is rich in culture, and we need more such platforms to bring artists together.’ He further added, ‘Northeast has many talented artists and art lovers, and this is a humble attempt to create a platform for future generations. Also, it is a window for the world to see the art practices of this region, through a collaborative and sustainable approach.’

MUSINGS OF A SOLDIER: TIT-BITS
People often ask me about my life out of uniform. Honestly, I have had no problems. Not so far. Instead, I find it quite refreshing. No routine, no parades, no briefing, no impending operations. Having donned the uniform since the age of thirteen until I hung up my boots last year, could I ever visualize life out of uniform? Not really. But, as I said, the transition has been quite smooth–no hang-overs, no regrets. People have been very positive in their interactions. Government departments have been responsive whenever I have approached for assistance. The genuine respect for the uniform is quite evident and it makes my heart swell with pride. Arunachal, to that extent, is the most nationalistic state in the country, I daresay. It has been kind of a revelation for me to experience the freedom of being a common man in an environment of positivity!
