MRT “INVESTMENT”
The previous admin purchased 48 MRT-3 coaches from China’s Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Co. Ltd. for P3.8 billion. Sadly, these new trains can’t be used until the current signaling system gets an upgrade— which could take three frickin’ years. If the current admin finds a way to reconfigure the MRT, DOT Undersecretary Cesar Chavez says it’s possible to cut the wait to about one year. Still not soon enough, eh? In the meantime, a graft case against former transportation officials led by ex-secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya is being pursued. Guesses on how that will play out?
