When it comes to controlling what you eat, we’ve always focused on counting calories and gaining or losing weight that we often forget that in food also lies repairing benefits for your skin. In his book Beauty in My Plate, Dr. Olivier Courtin-Clarins says, “Food ingested in meals are digested and conveyed by blood vessels of the dermis before being diffused into the epidermis. Many of these nutrients that are needed for the construction, renewal, protection and different metabolic actions of the skin mainly depend on a good food intake, because our body doesn’t know how to synthesise them. That’s why it’s important to give your skin everything it needs to be dazzling.”
27-year-old Yasmine Bahri has been battling sensitive skin for as long as she can remember. “I can’t believe that I still have this problem. To have pimples when you’re in high school is one thing, but to have it now as a working adult is just frustrating,” she says. “Believe it or not, it all started cos I used the wrong skincare products when I was younger – they were too rich for my sensitive skin! Since then, I haven’t been able to correct the problem. I’ve been to a lot of different facials and tried many ranges, but nothing’s given me a crystal-clear complexion yet,” Yasmine explains. “I do notice a difference when it comes to what I eat, though. For instance, when I take less sugary drinks and spicy foods and increase my water intake, the redness is reduced,” she adds.
