Have you ever heard of the anti-mullerian hormone (AMH) fertility test? Well, neither have we – until now that is.
If you’re wondering how it’s possible for you to detect this at an early stage, then this is where the AMH test comes in. An abbreviation for Anti-Mullerian Hormone (a protein substance produced by cells within the ovary), the AMH test is a simple blood test that can be done anytime during a woman’s menstrual cycle to determine her ovarian reserve (aka the amount of eggs that she has left for fertilisation) because the number of eggs that she has decreases as she ages.
Besides being useful to identify if you’re going to go through early menopause, it’s also a good way to check if you should continue to try and conceive naturally or if proactive family planning strategies (i.e. IVF or egg freezing) are required to ensure the best possible outcome. This game-changing technology also gives women around the world an upper hand in planning their future.
To find out more and how it affects us, team FEMALE decided to head to the KL Fertility & Gynaecology Centre at DC Mall, Kuala Lumpur, to do a little test of our own.

“I hate kids – that’s the answer I usually give anyone who asks me when I’ll be having my first child because unknowingly, I realised that this was my way of avoiding any disappointment in the event that I can’t have kids one day. I can’t bear the thought of not being able to conceive and while I still want a baby in the future, I’m always wondering if I can wait until I’m 30.
I’ve never considered doing a test to see how many eggs I have inside me but what I needed was to move on from my fear. Dr. Natasha Nor was really sweet in making sure I felt comfortable as she made small talk and asked me more about my personal background.
