Committing to a daily uniform requires confidence and gumption. These women have not only embraced the sari, they’ve made it their identity
KANUPRIYA TANDON, Brand ambassador, Raw Mango, Mumbai
“When I was a child, I remember my grandmother taking out a sari from a muslin cloth. It was a patola sari. And, it was love at first sight. For me, wearing a sari every day was a natural decision. Regardless of your size, a sari is draped in the same way. A lot more women are embracing the sari. It is not only seen as occasionwear. My appreciation for the sari grew when I joined Raw Mango. I saw better drapes and colours. My go-to sari is a mul cotton sari. When people don’t see me in a sari, they’re alarmed. I was walking back from a tennis class the other day, and I happened to bump into an acquaintance, who was quick to ask: ‘Funny not seeing you in a sari’. I thought to myself, If I could play tennis in a sari, I would”.
